Description

What actually makes something funny on stage? Spoiler alert... it’s not about trying harder to get the laugh. The Art of Funny takes a deeper look at the acting skills behind great comedy. Through scene work, improv, theatre games, and performance challenges, students will explore the tools behind strong stage comedy, including timing, character work, physicality, and reactions.

Rather than simply trying to “be funny,” students will learn to make bold and specific choices, support their fellow performers, and fully commit to the circumstances of the scene. Along the way, students will also build confidence, creativity, quick-thinking skills, and teamwork.

This class is designed to challenge performers to take creative risks, sharpen their instincts, and grow as confident, dynamic actors, all while having a lot of fun and, of course, creating plenty of laughs.

And if thinking of all the laughs, puts a smile on your face, have fun checking our list of songs and scenes for this Winter Session.

Teacher:

Haylie McComb

Having grown up participating in CYT Denver, Haylie experienced firsthand the impact that theatre, storytelling, and an encouraging community can have. Her love for the performing arts led her to earn a degree in Musical Theatre from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota and pursue a career that has taken her from hosting entertainment experiences to creating them within the cruise line industry. Haylie loves watching young performers discover their own voice, creativity, and confidence through storytelling and performance. She is excited to pour into the next generation and encourage them to use their unique gifts to connect and inspire others. Her faith is at the heart of how she serves, and she hopes every student leaves more confident in who God created them to be and inspired by all He can do through them.
